Product Review: NOoodle

What:  This is a pre-cooked noodle made from yam flour, it is stored in water, in a package about the size of a rice package.  It has no calories, fat, net carbs, soy, casein, and obviously no gluten.  It is also all natural.

Comments:  I was a little bit leery about this product at first, it had so few ingredients (water, lime, yam flour), and it honestly looked like worms in a packet of water. However, because of the convenience and that I had never seen it before (I have heard of the company, but never seen their product on shelves), I was willing to try it for you all!  Upon opening the packet, it smells kind of fishy and gross, another thing I was worried about, I hate fish.  I drained it in a colander, and tried a noodle- the texture is a little different, but it wasn’t gooshy at all, a little firm, and the flavor wasn’t bad either, actually it didn’t have a whole lot of flavor.  I cooked up some chicken broth, added some Brag, some curry powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and chives, let it come to a boil, then added the noodles.  I let it simmer for a bit to make sure the noodles got sufficiently hot.  Since the nooodles are packaged in water, you don’t have to worry about them breaking down cooking them, very nice feature.  After it cooled a bit, my daughter and I tried it.  Let me tell you, VERY impressed!  I think my daughter (13 months) ate more than I did!  I loved it because it reminded me of ramen noodles, which I’m sure all of us lived on at one time or another pre-GF.

Verdict: I wish I had kept my receipt so I could remember the price.  This is def an item I want to keep in stock in my pantry, it was SO easy and convenient, and because it is made from yam flour and water, I know it’s good for my daughter and me, too.  I am curious to see how they make the yam flour though, I’m not sure if it has dairy in it, it doesn’t say no dairy on the package.  As I said, I was VERY impressed with this item.  I can’t wait to try it on my husband, I think I might make a stir-fry tonight and add these noodles, I’m also excited to try a home made chicken noodle soup with noodles that don’t absorb all of the water and become soggy the next day!
